Corrosion prevention mechanism of the new microporous chrome plating system.
The potential of the traditional microporous (MP) nickel film tended to be less noble than the potential of the bright nickel film. Therefore, the MP nickel layer corroded preferentially, making the so-called "surface corrosion"more serious. (Figure-1)
The new microporous chrome plating system prevents the"surface corrosion" by making the potential of the bright nickel film less noble and the potential of the MP nickel film noble. The bright nickel layer sacrificially corrodes preventing an increase in the diameter of the corrosion hole on the MP nickel layer. (Figure-2)
The potential of the nickel film shifts to be less noble by the sulfur co-deposited from the additive, and it shifts to be noble by carbon. Using this principle, this system adjusts the potentials of both bright nickel film and the MP nickel film with additives.
